Concept to completion: 4.5 Weeks
One of our landscaping experts visited clients at their sandstone barn conversion to create a design to upgrade the rear garden to the same high standard as the recently renovated property. The customers desires included; a patio area to enjoy the evening sun; a chicken run; an area for the children’s play equipment; and easy-care planting areas. The drawing incorporated all these requirements with a patio and path from reclaimed Yorkstone paving which has a naturally weathered timeless appearance and characterful detail which ties in with the facade of the converted barn. For maintenance reduction an artificial lawn took the place of a natural lawn and provided an ideal spot to situate the children’s play equipment.
Firstly, the whole area was excavated to ensure a completely flat base for the garden before the fences were erected to define the areas. This was followed by the hardscaping which comprised of installing the sett edge perimeter for the artificial lawn and the laying of the Yorkstone paving.
Next the artificial turf was laid. The area for the turf was infilled with dolomite and compacted, the area was covered with sharp sand and smoothed to make the area as flat as possible for the artificial lawn. After the turf was fitted a layer of sand was spread across the turf to weigh it down and support the blades of grass.
To complete the look, planting areas were covered in geotextile membrane and infilled with bark. The selected plants were low maintenance and would add visual value and seasonal interest. Lastly low voltage stainless steel LED spotlights and uplighters were added to enhance the space, spotlights were shone up larger shrubs to give a remarkable appearance at night. Uplighters were fixed to the wall to add depth and a pleasant ambience to the garden.
