Concept to completion: 3 Weeks
The customers desired a low maintenance functional garden that they could enjoy year-round. The property was recently built and back garden therefore suitably fenced; the existing garden consisted of a small patio, lawn and raised bed to the rear. Two designs were produced one using straight lines and square patios and one with circles and curves. Both designs contained two porcelain paved patios, the morning sun catching the patio near the house and the evening sun catching the corner patio. Feature kerbs were added to give more appeal and work with the existing garden levels. The customer chose the curved design.
Firstly, the area was excavated (up to the raised sleeper bed which was to remain) infilled with dolomite and compacted to achieve solid foundations, next the kerbs were installed to divide the levels. A high-quality Italian porcelain paving was chosen with a blend of golden tones to create a contemporary feel. The porcelain paving was laid on a mortar bed, using a priming slurry on the paving underside to ensure the best adhesion. A sett edge was installed to separate the gravel and planting area from the artificial turf, the area was screeded with sharp sand to make it as smooth as possible before the turf was laid.
The clients chose a basalt slab water feature with plinth to give a contemporary look that would add class and sophistication, this was surrounded by duck egg cobbles to contrast and compliment the darker tones of the gravel and stone of the water feature. A broad spectrum of plants were selected to add lots of different colours and textures, vertical timber uni-rounds were installed to allow climbing roses to flourish. The final touch was the addition of LED stainless steel spotlights and uplighters to enhance the space, increase visibility in changing weather and create an atmosphere to extend hours of enjoyment.

“I am extremely pleased with the end result of my garden, friends and family are constantly impressed. Wilkinsons listened carefully to my thoughts and needs throughout. I was assisted round the plant centre which I found particularly valuable. The whole team were polite, respectful and professional.”
