Topiary is ideal for adding structure and texture to a planting scheme and looks striking when used to accentuate pathways, enhance entrances or punctuate hedges. It dates back to Egyptian times but nowadays is commonly used in classic and contemporary gardens alike and frequently used to create focal points and draw the eye around the space.
Most commonly grown from Box plants (Buxus sempervirens), Yew (Taxus baccata), Privet (Ligustrum), Holly (Ilex) and Bays (Laurus nobilis). We have an assortment of different topiary available all year round, with our most popular choice being topiary balls and lollipops. They look stunning throughout the seasons, providing height and colour in a garden and look particularly stylish when placed either side of the front door. We also stock many other shapes like cones, spirals, umbrellas and pom poms.
Topiary should be trimmed once or twice a year to maintain their shape. Vigorous species may require more regular trimming. Once a topiary specimen has been neglected, all is not lost. The majority of evergreen plants will respond to hard pruning in early or mid-spring. Once it has been pruned, promote new growth by mulching and avoiding drought.
